When life throws a curved ball, in order to find a workable solution or compromise, it often helps to discuss the problem/s with a skilled, objective listener, who is completely outside your circle of family and friends, and has your well-being as the centre of their attention. My objective for each meeting is to co-create a safe and welcoming space where you (and your partner) are free to explore and examine your relationships and lives; consider and try out new perspectives.
As individuals, we are all different, therefore, each therapy session evolves uniquely, starting from assessing where you are now and assisting you to identify and set realistic goals and targets, which we will then revisit and use as the framework for future sessions.
As a therapist, I have studied many disciplines however, the primary models on which I draw are Person Centred, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Transactional Analysis. I would describe myself as a creative, eclectic therapist. From me you can expect empathy, honesty, acceptance, non-judgment, confidentiality and warmth.
Prior to my counsellor training, my work was as an Adult Education Tutor teaching the Basic Skills of Maths, English and IT – also job search and CV building. Before that (and concurrent to), my work was as a partner in the family’s furniture business. Following my counsellor training I returned to teaching and used my counselling skills in the charity / not for profit sector – latterly counselling for Marriage Care.
I have a wealth of life experience from being mother of a large family, running a medium sized business; being a trainer / lecturer in Adult Education; have run the Carlisle and district section of an international charity SVP (combining the roles of President, Secretary (LCC) and volunteer) and am currently caring for a disabled person at home.
My private counselling / personal development practice, Dialogue Counselling is based at Cumbria Therapies, in Bourne House Business Centre CA2 5XF where I am able to work with individuals, couples and groups.
In addition, I am happy to use Zoom, Messenger, WhatsApp or FaceTime video for therapy, subsequent to initial face to face assessment sessions.
