Hypnotherapy for Stopping Smoking

Hypnosis
The actual experience of being hypnotised is difficult to describe.   It is characterised by a tremendously pleasant state of relaxation, an altered state of consciousness which you allow yourself to enter so that desired, beneficial suggestions may be given directly to the unconscious mind. Hypnosis is a natural and effective way of making contact with the inner (unconscious) self - a source of many of our problems as well as a huge reservoir of unrecognised and even forgotten potential strength and knowledge. Interestingly, you hear everything that is said to you and you remain in control throughout even though you are relaxed. In a therapeutic environment, nobody can be hypnotised against his or her will and, even when hypnotised, people can still reject any of the suggestions given if they are not appropriate. In 1955, the British Medical Association endorsed the practice of hypnosis in Medical School education and since then it has become a valuable addition to conventional medical treatment and psychotherapeutic approaches.

Hypnotherapy for stopping smoking
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis for the treatment and relief of many different psychological symptoms and habits. Within the centre the therapists use an array of hypnotherapeutic, psychotherapeutic and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques to allow you to achieve your best results as quickly as possible.

How it may help
Hypnotherapy can be used to assist you to break a habit like smoking by allowing you to work with the therapist to achieve the outcome you want.  In a relaxed state you will be encouraged to review what the habit means to you, to give suggestions to change your behaviour and to allow you to see yourself as a non-smoker.  We will help you to identify clearly the reasons why you wish to stop, to identify the advantages of quitting the habit for you, your family and your lifestyle and to calculate how much the habit is costing in money, health and inconvenience.

Depending on your motivation we may offer a  one or two session approach and may set some tasks for you to do to ensure that your relationship with smoking is very clear to you and you are sure the time is right to choose a healthier lifestyle.

Contraindications
Please be aware that hypnosis is contra-indicated in some conditions, for example, psychotic illness or severe depression. The hypnotherapist will be happy to discuss this with you and advise you on where to go for more appropriate treatment if this is indicated.

If you are having any medical treatment when you visit it is useful to let your doctor know that you have decided to have hypnotherapy so you receive the best care from everyone. The Centre will send a letter to your GP after the first consultation but this will only be done with your full permission.

A typical session
If you are really sure that you are ready to become a non-smoker then after a discussion with a therapist you may choose a one session approach to stop smoking.  This generally lasts around 2 hours during which time a full case history and habit history will be taken prior to the hypnotherapy experience.

If you would like to take things a little slower then the two session approach allows you time to work up to stop smoking. The first session can encourage you to change/reduce the habit in order to increase your motivation.  The second appointment to stop smoking is then arranged when you have decided you are really ready to stop. The first session may take 1.5 hrs to include a case history and hypnotherapy experience.  The second session will then offer you the opportunity to stop smoking for good and last around an hour.

Within the workplace, group support sessions can be arranged both before and after you have stopped smoking.

Cost / Number of sessions
The number of sessions required depends on your motivation.  Your ability to stop smoking is based on this.  We have absolute faith then when you have made that decision based on a clear commitment to yourself then you will have the best chance to become a non-smoker for life. The responsibility for success is completely yours which is why we provide the best support we can to make you a success.

This success is down to you (not us) and you should be justly proud when you achieve what you want.  Our role is to support and facilitate your ability to become a non-smoker. In return we expect you to take responsibility for enjoying the pleasure that comes from breaking the habit and optimising your own health again.

Marion offers a two session approach - 1.5hr session followed by 1hr session.

Vanessa offers a one session approach - as does Sonia. It's best to have a free, no-obligation chat with them over the phone so they can confirm the best approach.
