Counselling - Overview

Counselling is a talking therapy that allows you to begin to explore issues in your life that you would like to understand or change. The process requires a personal commitment from yourself to allow your awareness and understanding to develop.

The journey requires both time and energy for you to gain the insight to help with the transition.

The main aim of counselling is to offer a relationship which helps you to help yourself. The counsellor helps provide a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and caring relationship so that you can begin to explore any areas that may be affecting your life or work.

How it may help

The process allows you to:

  • explore personal issues and past difficulties;
  • increase your awareness of yourself and others;
  • develop skills so you can ask for help and assistance when needed;
  • become aware of your own needs and to respect these.

The journey allows you to respect and trust yourself so you can live your life in a way that is more fulfilling. The counsellor will help you to identify your inner strengths and resources so you can cope better with situations you will meet in your daily life and to allow you realise that you have choices about your decisions.

Contraindications
Ther are very few contraindications to working with a counsellor.  However, it is important that you feel comfortable with the person you are working with for you to explore issues effectively.

A typical session
Counselling involves you meeting on a regular basis (approx. every 2 weeks) with one of our team. You agree the timing and frequency of sessions at the first consultation. Sessions usually last about an hour.
